Cardiovascular responses to hypoxemia and acidemia in the intact anesthetized lamb.

چکیده
In the newborn lamb acute hypoxia generally induces little or no increase of cardiac output, while the same magnitude of hypoxia in the adult sheep is associated with very large increases.' These findings included lambs up to 60 days of age. This is curious, unless the newborn is normally operating at the top of its cardiac output capacity for several weeks after birth.' It would seem unlikely that an animal which engages in substantial physical activity within a few minutes of birth would have a fixed cardiac output. Furthermore, many of the autonomic reflex mechanisms which may contribute to circulatory regulation are operating in the immediate postnatal period."' Although the influence of exercise upon the cardiac output of the newborn lamb is not known, it is clear from the present studies that transfusions of maternal blood are followed by large increases of systemic blood flow. This demonstrates that the lamb can increase its cardiac output, at least transiently. It therefore seemed germane to ascertain if under similar experimental conditions acute hypoxia prior to and during metabolic acidemia, could influence systemic blood flow. A preliminary report on these experiments has been given.'

Effects of acute acidemia on the fetal cardiovascular defense to acute hypoxemia.
In complicated pregnancy, fetal hypoxemia rarely occurs in isolation but is often accompanied by fetal acidemia. There is growing clinical concern about the combined effects of fetal hypoxemia and fetal acidemia on neonatal outcome. However, the effects on the fetal defense responses to acute hypoxemia during fetal acidemia are not well understood. This study tested the hypothesis that fetal ac...
متن کاملCARDIOVASCULAR RESPONSES TO HYPERCAPNIA AND VARYING LEVELS OF ARTERIAL pH IN THE ANESTHETIZED CAT
Effects of acute hypercapnia on the cardiovascular system (CYS) were studied in the anesthetized cat. After surgery the animal was exposed to a gas mixture of 12% CO2 and 25% O2 in nitrogen, and hypercapnia with low levels of arterial pH (pHa) was produced for 20 minutes. In the second run the same level of hypercapnia was induced by ventilating the same cat from the above gas mixture but ...
متن کاملThe effect of reversible inactivation of the central amygdaloid nucleus on cardiovascular responses in rats with renal hypertension
The brain rennin-angiotensin system (RAS) has an important role in the regulation of cardiovascular function. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of reversible inactivation of the central amygdaloid nucleus (Ace) in normotensive rats and rats with renal hypertension (2K-1C). Two groups of normotensive rats were selected for this study. In one group, hypertension was induced...

متن کاملCardiovascular responses produced by resistin injected into paraventricular nucleus mediated by the glutamatergic and CRFergic transmissions within rostral ventrolateral medulla
Objective(s): Resistin, as a 12.5 kDa cysteine-rich polypeptide, is expressed in hypothalamus and regulates sympathetic nerve activity. It is associated with obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we investigated the neural pathway of cardiovascular responses induced by injection of resistin into paraventricular nucleus (PVN) with rostr...
